Alberto Morillas
Alberto Morillas (born 1950) is a Spanish master perfumer at the Swiss fragrance and flavor firm dsm-firmenich. Born in Seville, Spain, he moved to Switzerland at the age of ten and studied for two years at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Geneva. Largely self-taught in perfumery, Morillas began working in the field at the age of twenty, inspired by a Vogue article about French perfumer Jean-Paul Guerlain. He joined Firmenich in 1970 and has gone on to create nearly seven thousand perfumes. He established himself with the 1975 creation Must de Cartier, the jewelry company's first fragrance. He also has an independent fragrance line called Mizensir.
Among Morillas's most celebrated creations is CK One, developed with Harry Fremont in 1994 for Calvin Klein, which had annual sales of about ninety million dollars at its peak and is widely regarded as a landmark unisex fragrance. Other notable works in his extensive portfolio include Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gio, Acqua di Gio Absolu, Marc Jacobs Daisy, Cologne, BLV Notte Pour Femme, and Essence Iridescent. In Perfumes: The Guide, Luca Turin gave CK One four of five stars, describing it as a radiant citrus fragrance that sustains one chord rather than shapeshifting over the course of the day.
