Calice Becker
Calice Asancheyev-Becker, born circa 1964, is a French master perfumer and the director of Givaudan Perfumery School, where she shapes the next generation of perfumers. She trained at Roure Bertrand Dupont, which later became the Givaudan Perfumery School. As of 2018, she served as president of the International Society of Perfume Creators, and she has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from The Fragrance Foundation in recognition of her distinguished career.
Becker's creations have earned wide critical acclaim. Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez, in their influential book Perfumes: The Guide, awarded five stars to her composition Beyond Paradise, describing it as a masterful portrait of a gorgeously fresh, fictional, ideal tropical flower. They also praised Beyond Paradise for Men and Tommy Girl, calling the latter one of the most important fragrances of all time due to its far-reaching influence on the industry. Chandler Burr, perfume critic for The New York Times, wrote memorably of her 1999 creation J'Adore for Dior, comparing its golden radiance to the imagined scent of gold itself. Her notable works also include Black Orchid Oud.
