Maurice Roucel
Maurice Roucel is a French perfumer currently working at Symrise, having previously held positions at IFF, Quest International, and Dragoco over the course of a career spanning more than five decades. He began his journey into perfumery on February 19, 1973, after spending six years as the head chromatography chemist at Chanel. It was at Chanel that he commenced his apprenticeship under Henri Robert, the house perfumer at the time. After his formative years at Chanel, Roucel joined Quest International, where he spent twelve years further developing his craft as a perfumer before switching to Symrise in 1996. A distinctive hallmark of his work is his signature use of Michelia longifolia, an ingredient that appears throughout many of his compositions.
Roucel's contributions to the fragrance industry have earned him significant recognition and numerous accolades. He was awarded the Prix Francois Coty in 2002, one of the most distinguished honors in the perfume world, and has also received the French and American FiFi Awards as well as the French Oscar des Parfums. Among his notable creations are Air Intense, Air, and Oro.
